A Lost Art

I was watching Californication when at the end of the episode (Season 4, Episode 2), the main character Hank, writes a letter to his daughter. I re-watched those last 5 minutes of the episode over and over, imagining that it was a letter to me from my father.

And I don't think that I am the only one who can relate.

  1. Wow Jes, I can see how that letter and that episode could seriously relate to you. Knowing, and growing up around your father for the first part of his life, I would have NEVER predicted the outcome. He was fun always, caring mostly, the kind soul, do anything for anybody. I am sure that deep in his heart he will always love you and your sisters. I know he does. Does he have a real shitty way about showing it. Well yeah!!! He sucks... A year and half ago, during the 25th reunion, there was my old cousin Herbie, clean from all appearances, sober in thought, memory clear, and I had a great two days of talking to the guy I remember, unclouded by drugs or alcohol. What a treat to see the sparkle and life in his eyes. Sadly, I heard within weeks he had caved in to the devils wishes, and reverted to the guy we do not like, care for, or understand. But keep in your mind, during periods of self doubt, this is not your fault, nor is it your problem. He is the loser here, in a very big way. He has lost the respect of friends, love of family, and mostly the life of his own blood. I will always hold a special place in my heart for him, and I think I told you this a few years ago when we were the only two at the bonfire, cooking hotdogs and marshmellows, your Dad is a lost soul, searching for something that most likely will never exist, nor ever did. His world was in front on him, he turned and walked away.

Much love, big giant hugs and a kiss. Come see us, we are only a three hour drive away.
